Syria: Pope Says to End Violence before the Country Becomes “a Field of Ruins”

pope-diplomatsAt the Vatican, in his annual address to the Vatican diplomatic corps Pope Benedict XVI had strong words on Syria and the international economy. The pope called for more humanitarian aid to Syria and warned that there will be no winners in the current situation, only “a field of ruins.” The pope blamed the worldwide economic crisis on a desire for profit and spoke of the growing divide between the few who grow richer and the many who grow poorer.
