Syrian Forces Recapture Ancient City of Palmyra

05-Palmyra-600The Syrian government’s recapture of Palmyra has enabled experts to survey the damage done by ISIS to some of Syria’s best known artifacts and monuments. The terrorist group demolished two large temples dating back more than 1,800 years and a Roman triumphal archway. It also heavily damaged artifacts inside the city’s museum. A sculpture of the Greek goddess Athena was, for example, decapitated. ISIS claims the ancient relics promote idolatry.
