In Jerusalem, tensions are escalating at the Old City’s al-Aqsa Mosque compound. The site is sacred to Muslims and also Jews who call it the Temple Mount. Palestinians and Israeli security forces clashed again this week after a group of Jewish extremists illegally entered the compound to pray. Jews are allowed into the compound but may not worship there. Last month, an activist pushing for greater Jewish access was shot and seriously wounded.
