Methodist Minister Suspended for Officiating at Same-Sex Wedding

More evidence this week of the growing divide in the United Methodist Church over homosexuality: A United Methodist pastor was convicted by his fellow pastors for officiating at his son’s same-sex wedding. Reverend Frank Schaefer of Lebanon County, Pennsylvania will be forced to leave the ministry if he doesn’t withdraw his support of same-sex marriage within 30 days. He pledged to continue performing gay marriages and says he expects to be defrocked. The denomination’s official position is “the practice of homosexuality is incompatible with Christian teaching.” Other church trials over the issue are expected.
