UN: 2016 Deadliest Year for Mediterranean Migrants

05-600The United Nations announced that more migrants were killed crossing the Mediterranean Sea to Europe in 2016 than ever before. More than 363,000 people crossed the sea in 2016. But an estimated 5,000 died in the crossing. UN officials called for finding better means for ensuring safe migration.
