This week, the UN approved an ambitious new 15-year plan to end poverty, fight injustice, and address the impact of climate change. Several faith-based groups pledged to help achieve these 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development. The SDGs, as they are known, replace Millennium Development Goals that were adopted in the year 2000. Only one of those eight goals was met: in the last 15 years, the number of people living in extreme poverty has fallen by more than half.
