US Muslims Condemn Ohio State Attack; Interfaith Leaders Denounce Hate Mail Sent to Mosques

06-600US Muslim leaders are strongly condemning this week’s attack at Ohio State University, where nearly a dozen people were injured. The attacker was killed by university police. He was identified as Abdul Razak Ali Artan, who was born in Somalia and came to the US in 2014. Authorities say Artan posted rants on Facebook about the treatment of Muslims around the world. American Islamic leaders said his actions were a perversion of their faith. They urged that the violence not set off a backlash against their community. Meanwhile, mosques in several states have been receiving copies of a letter referring to Muslims as “children of Satan” and asserting that Donald Trump will do to Muslims “what Hitler did to the Jews.” Interfaith leaders are denouncing the hate mail. Reform Jewish leader Rabbi Jonah Dov Pesner called it “vile.” He pledged that the nation’s largest Jewish movement would stand with Muslims against Islamophobia.
