Faith-based groups are among those mobilizing to help victims of this week’s deadly cyclone in the South Pacific islands of Vanuatu. Teams of aid workers are trying to assess the extent of the destruction and the death toll, but that’s a challenging task. Many of Vanuatu’s more than 80 islands are accessible only by boat or helicopter. Officials say on some islands almost all buildings were damaged or destroyed, and crops were devastated. Relief groups are sending in food, water and temporary shelter and planning for long-term aid.
