In an effort to protect the magnificent frescoes of the Sistine Chapel, the head of the Vatican Museums has announced the installation of a new system to try to minimize the amount of dust and dirt tracked in each year by the chapel’s five million visitors. Approaching the entrance will be a 110-yard long carpet on which visitors can wipe their feet; also, a huge vacuum system to suck up loose hair and dust, and inside, climate control to remove heat and humidity from tourists’ bodies.
