In Illinois, the evangelical Wheaton College announced this week that it will stop providing health insurance for students. School officials blamed the Affordable Care Act’s contraception mandate, saying that providing coverage would force them to directly or indirectly supply their students with the types of contraception that violate Wheaton’s religious beliefs. The decision affects about a quarter of the school’s 3,000 students who were on the health plan.
