World Humanitarian Summit Convenes in Istanbul

02-600Attempting to address what some say is the worst humanitarian situation since War World II, leaders gathered in Istanbul this past week for the first World Humanitarian Summit.  Representatives of 65 governments and the Vatican attended the two-day (May 23-24) UN meeting. Pope Francis prayed for the summit’s success. Still, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed disappointment that some of the world’s wealthiest nations, including the US, had not attended the meeting.
