Aztec Massacre

Premiere: 4/23/2008 | 00:00:30 | NR

Archaeologists make a grisly find: 400 skeletons buried in a mass grave, undisturbed for 500 years, since the time of the Spanish conquest. But this is no ordinary gravesite. The remains suggest these people met a gruesome end at the hands of the Aztecs, who ruled Mesoamerica in the 14th through 16th centuries. But who were the victims and why were they killed?

About the Episode

Zultepec, Mexico. Archaeologists make a grisly find: 400 skeletons buried in a mass grave. The bodies have lain undisturbed for 500 years, since the time of the Spanish conquest. But this is no ordinary gravesite. The remains suggest these people met a gruesome end at the hands of the Aztecs, who ruled Mesoamerica in the 14th through 16th centuries. But who were the victims and why were they killed?

Aztec Massacre uncovers an unexpected answer to this question — one that stands to rewrite history. The film follows Elizabeth Baquedano, a leading expert on the Aztecs, as she journeys through Mexico to meet with archeologists who are uncovering the ghastly story hidden among the Zultapec bones.
