1. Woman Possibly Killed in Mass Murder Returned to Ireland for Burial
Here’s the latest update to the story of Duffy’s Cut. In 1832, Catherine Burns left Ireland for Philadelphia where she found work at Duffy’s Cut — a railroad construction site staffed by Irish Catholics. Less than two months later, Catherine and several others would disappear forever. It was assumed that a cholera epidemic sweeping the East Coast killed the railroad workers, but contemporary research suggests foul play was involved. Read more at Pictorial.

The wreckage of a Civil War vessel being removed piece by piece, near Savannah’s famous River Street, continues to impress divers and archaeologists. Read more at CNN.
3. ‘Oldest’ Koran Fragments Ever Dated Found
The University of Birmingham has found what may be the world’s oldest fragments of the Koran. Radiocarbon dating found the manuscript to be at least 1,370 years old, suggesting it was written near time of Prophet Muhammad’s death. Read more at BBC.
4. Prison That Held ‘El Chapo’ Is Replica of One He Broke Out Earlier
Mexico’s most notorious drug lord, Joaquín Guzmán Loera, known as El Chapo, escaped from a maximum-security prison on July 11, 2015. The Mexican prison from which El Chapo escaped is virtually identical in layout to one he escaped in 2001. Read more at The New York Times.
5. New Questions Raised about the Final Resting Place of Alexander the Great’s Father
Archaeologists who excavated this tomb at Vergina, Greece, in the late 1970s concluded it was the burial place of Philip II of Macedon. New evidence suggests his remains were actually laid to rest in a nearby tomb. Read more at National Geographic.
