Lead Investigator & Curator, Nautical Archaeology North Carolina Maritime Museum: David Moore
David completed graduate work in maritime history and nautical archaeology in the early 1980s and travelled to Florida to work on a number of shipwrecks including the Spanish galleons San Martin (1618) and Atocha (1622), the English slave ship Henrietta Marie (1700), and the English merchantman Spring of Whitby (c.1824). He also directed the first deep water excavation of a shipwreck utilizing robotic technology, the probable Spanish patache Buen Jesus lost in 1622 in 400 meters of water off the Dry Tortugas. Moore completed his Master’s degree at East Carolina University with a thesis on the slaver Henrietta Marie in 1989 and curated a major traveling exhibition on the ship that has traveled around the country and abroad since 1995. He is currently the Curator of Nautical Archaeology at the North Carolina Maritime Museum where he has worked primarily on the Blackbeard Shipwreck Project and excavating the pirate’s flagship Queen Anne’s Revenge for the past twelve years
Producer/Director: David Johnson
David is a Bafta Award winning Director. Originally trained as a chemical engineer, he has been producing and directing films for the last fifteen years, specializing in large productions and science and history documentaries. Recent credits include ‘Across The Andes’ for the BBC, a series following a group of disabled teenagers as they cross the Andes in Ecuador and ‘Body In Numbers’ for Discovery Health, a series taking a completely new look at the amazing achievements of the human body. He is also an accomplished cameraman and shot much of the material for ‘Blackbeard’s Lost Ship’ himself.
Executive Producer: Mark Fielder
Mark was a founder member of Quickfire in 2003. He previously worked as a series producer and executive producer at the BBC and Granada, producing history, documentary and science projects. Credits include Driving School BBC1, War Walks BBC2 and BAFTA nominated Elizabeth & Six Wives of Henry VIII for C4, Last Tommy BBC1, In the Footsteps of Churchill BBC2, Barrack Room Bullies C4, Third Reich in Colour for C5.
Head of Production: Mandy Leith
Mandy has over twenty years experience in television and has managed much of Quickfire’s production since its conception. For twelve years she was a senior production manager for Scorer Associates. She has worked on drama, factual, and natural history programmes, many of which have won major industry awards. Now as Head of Production she is in charge of staffing, administrative, and financial and business affairs across all productions.
Executive Producer & Director, Science Programs, THIRTEEN: Jared Lipworth
As director of science programs, Mr. Lipworth is responsible for commissioning and executive producing all science programs produced by Thirteen’s Science, Natural History and Features department. Current projects in production or development include Secrets of the Dead VI and VII, The Human Spark, Ground War, Curious II and more. Recently completed projects include The Mysterious Human Heart, Curious, Warplane and Secrets of the Dead V.
Prior to becoming executive producer and then director of science programs, Mr. Lipworth was the series producer for the department’s technology series, Innovation. He also served as series producer for the Emmy-nominated Secrets of the Dead III and coordinating producer for many of the department’s projects, including Warrior Challenge, Secrets of the Pharaohs, the Emmy Award-winning Frontier House and The Secret Life of the Brain, Warship, Taxi Dreams, Echoes From The White House and Savage Planet. In 2003, Mr. Lipworth was nominated for a writing Emmy for Secrets of the Dead: Mystery of the Black Death. Additional credit at Thirteen include post-production producer for The American President and 1900 House, and production assistant for Savage Seas, On The Trail of Mark Twain, The Great Balloon Race and Stories of Lupus.
Before arriving at Thirteen, Mr. Lipworth produced, directed and edited In the Footsteps of the Black Rhino for the BBC’s Animal Zone. He received his master’s degree in broadcast journalism from New York University, where he won the award for academic excellence, and he received his bachelor’s degree in business management from Cornell University.
