A suicide bomber kills Somalia’s security minister in the town of Beledweyne, just north of the capital, Mogadishu. Ten others, including Somalia’s ambassador to South Africa, were also killed. The government blamed Al-Shabab, an Islamist insurgent group with purported ties to Al Qaeda, for the attack.

Police in Pakistan arrest a suspect in the March, 2009 attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team. Six policeman and a driver were killed in that attack.
