World Links: Swine Flu Kills 149 in Mexico, 40 Killed and 55,000 displaced in Pakistan

The toll of Mexico’s swine flu outbreak rises to 1,995 infected and 149 dead. Schools throughout the county will be closed from tomorrow through at least May 6th in an effort to contain the virus.

Pakistani officials say that Lower Dir district is now under the control of security forces, after 40 Taliban militants were killed and nearly 55,000 people displaced in two days of clashes.

Afghan president Hamid Karzai announces his bid for re-election.

The Sri Lankan government says that will stop using air strikes and heavy weapons against Tamil Tiger rebels, and will focus on civilian rescue operations.
