Black Bear Cubs Practice Climbing

SHARE

Climbing trees is a survival skill black bears utilize from a very young age, but perfecting the skill takes practice.

TRANSCRIPT

(gentle upbeat music) (bear huffs) - [Narrator] Thanks to their strong, curved claws, these cubs can climb from a very young age.

But perfecting the technique takes time.

They need to learn which trees are best for gripping onto.

Smaller trees and branches are good for practice.

Well, most of the time.

(wood cracks) This tree is too flaky.

(cub squeals) This tree is too slippery.

But this tree is just right.

(cub grumbles) Going up is one thing.

(cub whines) But coming down again can require a helping hand.

(cub squeals and grumbles)
