A look back: Nature premiered in 1982 as the brainchild of George Page, then THIRTEEN’s director of science programming. Its first episode, Flight of the Condor, featured stunning cinematography of the bird as it migrated across the Andes mountains in Latin America. Nature remains one of the highest rated shows on PBS and has won hundreds of honors including 10 Emmys and 3 Peabody awards. Fred Kaufman, who started as a young production assistant for the series and now serves as its Executive Producer, discusses the early days of the natural history series.
