With so many exciting and compelling things happening in the natural world and biology these days, it can be difficult to keep up with the latest natural science news. We at NATURE love reading all the latest reports, as well as keeping tabs on specific animals we’ve featured in our films. Here’s a round-up of articles we’ve been reading this week:

Remember our film Urban Elephant? Shirley, one of the elephants featured, celebrated her 70th birthday, making her the 3rd oldest elephant in North America.

Fitting news for our Summer of LoveScientists have found that the African annual fish can reach sexual maturity in about two weeks, the fastest known among vertebrates.

Beavers may be the ultimate keystone species, but read why two countries want them wiped out.
