NATURE Season 39 Preview

From Australia to Africa to the Alps, Nature’s 39th season travels the globe to film never-before-seen animal behavior alongside crucial conservation stories of at-risk species.

NATURE’s new season kicks off on October 21 at 8/7c with Pandas: Born to be Wild and continues through the spring of 2021 with an exciting new lineup of films. Each new episode will be available on PBS, pbs.org/nature and the PBS Video app. Descriptions of each episode are below.*
 

PANDAS: BORN TO BE WILD | Wednesday, October 21

Unlock the mysteries of wild pandas whose counterparts in captivity are known for their gentle image. Journey through the steep Qinling Mountains with filmmakers, scientists and rangers to witness pandas’ startling courtship and aggressive behavior.
 

AUSTRALIAN BUSHFIRE RESCUE | Wednesday, October 28

Meet the people rescuing and caring for the animal survivors of Australia’s devastating bushfires. Iconic species such as koalas, kangaroos and wombats face a series of hurdles to recover from their trauma. The film is a follow-up to a series of digital shorts produced by Nature that captured the immediate aftermath of the fires and relief efforts.
 

PRIMATES (three-part miniseries) | Wednesdays, November 4 – November 18

Get to know the many species of primates, from the popular chimpanzee and gorilla, to more obscure species such as the snub-nosed monkey, the slow loris, the tarsier and many others.
 

SANTA’S WILD HOME | Wednesday, November 25

Get an intimate look at the wildlife of Lapland, a region in northern Finland, the fabled home of Santa Claus and actual home of reindeer, wolverines, eagles, wolves, brown bears and more.
 

THE ALPS (two-part miniseries) | Wednesdays, January 13 – January 20

In Europe’s highest mountain range, discover how Alpine lynx, griffon vultures, ibex, crocuses, marmots and more face extreme seasonal fluctuations, from volatile thunderstorms and landslides of summer to avalanches and frozen temperatures of winter.
 

PUMAS: LEGENDS OF THE ICE MOUNTAINS | Wednesday, February 3

Travel to the mountains of Chile to discover the secrets of the puma, the area’s biggest and most elusive predator. Discover how this mountain lion survives and follow the dramatic fate of a puma mother and her cubs.
 

BIG BEND: THE WILD FRONTIER OF TEXAS | Wednesday, February 10

Roam the Wild West frontier land of the Rio Grande’s Big Bend alongside its iconic animals, including black bears, rattlesnakes and scorpions.
 

THE LEOPARD LEGACY | Wednesday, April 14

Follow the story of a leopard mother as she raises her cubs near the Luangwa River, facing a constant battle to hunt successfully, defend her territory and protect her cubs against enemies.
 

SHARKS OF HAWAII | Wednesday, April 21

Learn surprising facts about the sharks that call the warm waters near Hawaii’s islands their home. Meet the White Tip Reef shark, Whale shark, Tiger shark and more.
 

THE BAT MAN OF MEXICO | Wednesday, June 30

An ecologist tracks the Lesser Long-nosed bat’s epic migration across Mexico, braving hurricanes, snakes, Mayan tombs and seas of cockroaches, in order to save the species and the tequila plants they pollinate. Narrated by David Attenborough.
