Raptors

Falconiformes/Accipitriformes

Raptors are birds characterized by powerful talons and beaks, and keen vision that allows them to detect prey during flight. They generally prey on vertebrates, which can be quite large relative to the size of the bird. Most also eat carrion, with some eating carrion as their main food source. Many raptor species are considered apex predators. This group includes hawks, eagles, buzzards, harriers, kites, vultures and falcons.
