REDWOOD CITY

Annabel, the Anna’s Hummingbird, built her nest in a young Oleander 20ft from my balcony. The day I saw the nest and a few moments after grabbing my camera I watched as she laid her first egg. Right on queue, the first chick hatched 16 days later. I have been documenting their journey every day since. Yesterday, at 16 and 15 days old, their feathers finally started to turn that beautiful Hummingbird green. They change in an identifiable way each and every day. It’s a true privilege to watch this show of “life” unfold before my eyes, and to see Annabel take such incredible care of her babies. This is truly one of nature’s greatest gifts.
