Why Do Moose Enjoy Licking Cars?

SHARE

A mineral lick (also known as a salt lick) is a place where animals can go to lick essential mineral nutrients from a deposit of salts and other minerals. When there isn’t a natural lick nearby, moose make do with the closest salty object.

TRANSCRIPT

In this winter landscape, all a mother can do is to show her calf how to find everything possible to eat.

Our little calf is catching on pretty quick.

Hey, little guy.

Wow!

So these moose... are really attracted to the salt on my car.

The road salt contains potassium, calcium, even magnesium.

That's why the mothers love it so much.

It's like my car's a Popsicle.
